Get everything you want by being persistent and never giving up
Why most people quit before success, and how you can break the cycle for good
The biggest reason people don’t achieve their goals is because they quit too soon.
And I get it — persistence doesn’t always come naturally. I used to quit everything. After like 3 months. If I even got that far.
But building a business and audience around my writing, my truest gifts, has required me to learn how to be persistent.
If I can learn how to be persistent and consistent, you can too.
That’s how you’ll bring the vision you’re meant for, to life.
The magical thing about persistence is that it creates a supernatural snowball effect, where momentum builds and builds until one day everything overflows.
Effort feels hard and quiet at first, but at some point, magical, other-worldly things begin to happen simply because you committed to just not giving up.
The key is learning how to persevere by managing negative thoughts and feelings that would otherwise make you quit.
Perseverance, like most other aspects of success, is an inner game.
Here’s how to persevere:
1. Lean into challenges instead of run away.
I’ve always said, how you respond to low moments defines how high you rise.
Most people don’t know how to respond to hard moments in a way that leads to growth. That’s why the work we do in Bloom, my membership for spiritual and creative entrepreneurs who want to get paid for their purpose, is so important.
Think about how you currently react to challenges:
Do you fall into self-pity and stories about how it should be easier?
Do you lean into old identities based on past struggles, thinking you’re someone who doesn’t get what she wants or who is available to give up?
Do you romanticize the struggle? Bond with others over it? Talk about how things are just so hard.
Those thoughts will make you quit. You won’t achieve your goals, and you’ll find all sorts of explanations why, but the truth is, you simply didn’t have the right mindset.
Instead, lean into the challenge. Commit to finding solutions, and sit with the uncomfortable emotions to find the wisdom inside. Seek inner growth, which leads to outer growth.
The key is to look at challenges as problems to solve rather than proof you’re not good enough to get what you want.
Here is a powerful training on exactly how to respond to difficulties from a place of self-worth rather than doubt or feeling not good enough.
When you respond to challenges from a place of knowing you’re good enough and holding the vision, reality rearranges around you.
The exact solution you need to overcome your problems will literally materialize out of nowhere, in the form of an idea, a book, a podcast, mentor or course — the answer to your prayers.
Everything you need will appear when you decide that your challenges aren’t blocks, but stepping stones.
2. Learn to hold the tension until you breakthrough.
Breakthroughs happen when tension builds until something snaps. A new reality snaps into place, or you snap back into old patterns, requiring you to basically start over.
The closer you get to breaking through and achieving a goal, it’s very common to feel frustrated or doubtful as part of that tension.
You might wonder: Why aren’t things happening faster?
You might doubt: It looks so much easier and quicker for other people. Am I not good enough?
You might forget to feel grateful, and think: Because my life doesn’t look exactly the way I want, everything sucks.
How most people respond to these feelings — and why most people fail to achieve their goals — is they back down.
They’ll return to normal. Lower their expectations to alleviate emotional pain. Tell themselves stories about how what they want isn’t possible for someone like them.
And in doing so, they stop holding themselves to the new, higher standard required to create exceptional results like a high-earning business, hot body or thriving relationship.
In these moments, you need to be persistent, especially with the inner work, holding the identity and self-concept of the woman you’re becoming — NOT the old version of you screaming and crying to go back to comfort.
You upgrade your self-belief, and the knowing you can do it. You upgrade your self-worth, the knowing you can create what you want because you’re good enough, rather than needing a result to prove your worth.
This is what I teach you in Bloom each month, so you can create a business and life reflecting the highest expression of who you really are, rather than base level fears or old conditioning.
When you learn to hold the tension, the breakthrough happens.
A new reality snaps into place. Your income increases. Your audience grows. Sales become easier. People see you differently because you saw yourself differently long enough to become a more elevated version of you.
You gain an incredible self-confidence because you know the power to create anything you want is inside of you.
3. Expect a time of relentless effort without results.
I’ve started multiple businesses over the years, everything from real estate to freelance writing to my coaching and course company.
And every single one required an insane amount of energy to be poured in - not only at the start, but also the beginning of each uplevel.
The same is true with fitness, as a more tangible example. The first few weeks or even months require you to persevere without seeing immediate results.
You might begin to wonder — is something wrong with me? Why aren’t things happening?
But a deeper part of you knows, it’s science. It’s the law of the universe. When you eat fewer calories and work out more, you’ll lose weight.
With less data-driven goals, the process requires a lot more faith.
The first 3 months in any new creative endeavor are a huge energy pit where it feels like you’re pouring everything you have into a big black hole consuming everything and returning nothing.
Some people are lucky and see quick results, but that can set an unfortunate expectation that building your dream should happen quickly. Then, when you inevitably reach some plateau or difficulty, you’re not as equipped to handle it.
You need to build your vessel to handle incoming blessings, as Kabbalah says.
Think of this phase as character building.
But one day, things snowball. Something goes viral. A flood of new readers, clients or customers come in. Everything happens at once. You look up in wonder, fully knowing in your bones that it’s all energy.
Every result you experience is only a mirror of your inner world, and when you become the most consistent and persistent version of yourself, miracles happen.
4. Let resistance illuminate your fears so you can release them.
Instead of backing down and listening to the voices telling you — take it easy, it’s okay, nobody will notice (but you’ll notice)…
Learn from the negativity. Sit with the emotions you feel. What are they actually telling you?
Deep inside are probably thoughts like:
You’re not really capable of creating what you want.
That kind of success or wealth is for other people, not people like you.
You’re going to fail. Then you’ll be backed into a corner, and no dreams left to get you back up.
People are watching you. They’re judging you. Better sit down and fit in before you embarrass yourself.
When you go after your dreams, and push against the limits of your own self-concept by becoming consistent and persistent and taking the actions that the most successful, fulfilled, fully self-expressed version of you would take —
You’ll naturally trigger all the voices and fears and repressed emotions that’ve been dormant until now because they controlled you.
They were keeping you small.
So now you’re pushing up against that, you get to choose — are you going to allow this past conditioning to control you?
Or are you going to face it? Release it. Reprogram it. Rise above it.
And keep pushing. Until you breakthrough.
I hope this landed. I’d love to hear your reflections!
