In a world that tells us who to be, and how to be it, it’s no wonder that figuring out how to monetize your creativity feels overwhelming.
I’ll tell you what I believe, and what’s helped me make multiple six figures online, build a successful business (initially around emotional healing) and attract an audience of tens of thousands.
That’s the highlight reel, but there’s a deeper truth, one that’s essential for our discussion today:
Success happens in the cracks.
The cracks of surrender.
The moments of — fuck it, I’m just going to do what I want.
The minutes of — I’m so tired of not believing in myself, I’m the best at what I do.
The seconds of — I’m going to follow this crazy intuitive nudge even though it’s not something I normally do.
I’m not good at letting go.
It’s easy to blame my past experiences, but the truth is that a lot of people have suffered and not all of them struggle in the same way.
It’s always a choice, as hard as that is to come to terms with.
But once we remember it’s a choice, we regain our power of focus over the one thing we can control: our attitude.
Because here’s another unconventional thing I believe:
You have a purpose, and that purpose naturally expresses itself when you are most authentically you.
AND — this is important — you create success with your truest gifts when you express them in a way that’s naturally, authentically you.
That sounds like cloudy spiritual speak, which it kind of is, so let’s break it down.
As I mentioned, I struggled to rebuild my business after burnout.
The most difficult thing was my confidence was rocked.
I did SO much mindset work and emotional healing to build my business in the first place, but sometimes I paved over emotional pain with mindset work — affirming positive thoughts and beliefs.
It wasn’t so much toxic positivity as it was not giving myself space to process and release. I need a lot of that, as a highly sensitive creative.
Most of my clients are also highly sensitive yet ambitious creatives, and finding the balance between allowing space to process and release versus remembering the higher truth is something we spend a lot of time on.
I’m very careful to honor that balance because when done correctly, it’s life changing, and when done incorrectly, it either keeps you wallowing in pain or fries your nervous system because you’re moving too fast.
Anyway, in my rocked confidence, I fell into the Instagram trap of —
Post carousels THIS way to attract clients.
You’re FAILING because your copy isn’t doing THIS.
I truly think one of the most toxic things about Instagram and also YouTube to a certain extent is that everyone somehow made marketing about making people feel like shit about themselves and telling them how they’re failing.
Because my confidence was rocked, I searched for all the things I was doing wrong.
I’m a high achiever! Tell me the problem! I’ll solve it!
But that’s the absolute worst approach for building a business based on intuition.
Focus on what you want, what comes naturally, and most often, what comes naturally isn’t remotely what anyone else will teach you.
Because it’s natural to you.
That’s also why most of us feel our way isn’t good enough, and search for answers outside of us. Because we worry WE’RE not good enough.
As another example, I’ve written weekly blogs for years. It can take a literal week to write just one.
And yet, a few days ago, listening to old course recordings from mentors I love, I received the intuitive guidance to post daily for a little while, and end with calls to action to work with me.
All week I’ve been spending an hour or so writing a little blog, tacking on a CTA, and it’s been SO fun!
It helped me break all the rules of how I think I should create. Two people inquired about coaching, and I’ve received comments like:
“Suzanne, honestly your words resonate with me so much it’s like you’ve reached into my actual mind. And I love the way you write, it resonates with me too. Appreciate you.”
And
“So many times in the weeks I’ve been following you, I’ve thought some iteration of: she’s so wise! I’m so grateful to follow her! She’s amazing! Just so you know.”
Last night, I was thinking, duh! It’s working because it’s NATURAL to me.
It’s too easy because it’s NATURAL to me.
It’s how I most easily and authentically express myself, and of course, part of my purpose is coaching people, helping them identify their gifts, find the work they’re meant to do, and monetize based on intuition rather than strategy —
But the other part of that is my own self-expression!
I told myself lies that it had to fit into a certain framework or look a certain way, when in truth, you create the results you’re meant to, when you express yourself the way you’re meant to.
Purpose flows effortlessly when you’re being who you’re meant to be.
And that’s why this is about more than money to me. I don’t want to work with people who only care about money or followers because ultimately those things are empty.
You can make insane amounts of money by being authentic to yourself. It requires an extraordinary high level of self-trust and inner commitment, which is why mentorship and support is essential along the way.
Most of us aren’t born with those things. We need to learn how to create them.
High-proximity mentoring will fully change your life.
And that’s my greatest gift — to help people patiently tune into who they really are, how they’re meant to express themselves, and how that’s meant to be monetized. All step by step guidance from your soul.
Because you were born not only with a purpose, but the exact instructions to live it out.
And every moment you doubt yourself is another moment delaying your success, financial abundance and recognition.
Success happens in the cracks of surrender.
So surrender, let it all go, and trust yourself.
Try it for 30 days. It’ll change your life.
And on that note — join the Becoming Your Future Self 30-day habit challenge!
During this 30 day challenge you will unfurl your inner creative wild child and express yourself with zero f$cs.
You will build a foundation to generate insane amounts of wealth through your soul’s expression.
You will become hotter and more magnetic. You will sleep more soundly. You will dance through life like you’ve just met a new lover.
Because you will fall in love with yourself all over again.
You will do this by committing to one stretchy but doable goal.
Doing so will make you feel creatively exhilarated, and that sense of aliveness will attract incredible opportunities to you.
That’s what we’ll be doing in this challenge.
