Oh friend, this felt like a personal letter. Thank you, thank you. ❤️ I'm doing a lot better with this whole concept of "feeling like a failure" thing, but it's still tough sometimes! It's easy to feel down on yourself if you haven't realized your purpose, as you put it. I constantly feel like I need to try harder to get there....then I put myself into a cycle of burnout truing to achieve! And that does no good. I love what you said about first healing your shit, because damn, does that add fuel to that fire of unworthiness!!!
Whaaat? You do so many amazing things! Hiking and volunteering and writing. I'm honestly shocked to hear you feel like a failure or feel you haven't realized a purpose. You don't give yourself enough credit!!!
Aw Suzanne, you're so kind❤️ I don't feel this way as much now. It's actually totally gone. But as recently as a few months ago, I was struggling to figure out how to live more aligned with what I wanted (death doula work, writing more , etc). And a few years ago, it was even worse! (Back before I discovered doula work)
I feel you Niki I’ve been there so many times too. It’s easy to feel like you’re “falling behind” in some way and it’s never enough. One perspective that’s helped me along my journey is to realise that life isn’t a race to be completed, but a journey to be explored, discovered and enjoyed. What if we had no purpose beyond simply enjoying existence? Sometimes simplicity is the answer!
One of my favourite lines is by a poet called Hafiz who says “Where you are now God circled on a map for you.” Hearing that 5 years ago gave me so much peace in my heart knowing that I am not falling behind and maybe whatever is happening is happening exactly the way it is meant to. I feel you’d enjoy this piece I wrote: https://soulwisdom.substack.com/p/the-path-of-courage
Suzanne, I appreciate your wise approach. Your advice is especially relevant to me at this time, as I'm at a crossroads. I especially love the idea of feeling into and aligning rather than figuring out.
I feel like you've written this post for me ! I'm at a crossroads at the moment and I don't know what to do. I feel I'm not using my potential, missing opportunities. In other words I'm not living my life 😪 reading your words I realise I put too much pressure on myself and it doesn't help clarifying my ideas. Thank you again 🙏
Crossroads moments are so powerful! I’m so glad you’re exploring releasing the pressure. Makes it so much easier to hear your inner guidance moving forward. ♥️🙏🏼
Yes!! This is exactly what I’ve been realising again and again over the last year or so. I’m currently in the liminal space of burnout and long Covid recovery (I wrote about this on my Substack too), which is the kind of time at which it’s extra important to remember this, what you so accurately describe as releasing the need to figure it out.
I also love how you put it as ‘The seed of everything I was meant to become rested inside the exact situation I didn’t want to be in.’
I'm sorry to hear that! Sending you love on your healing journey. It's hard! I'm in a couple chronic fatigue groups, and it seems a lot of people developed their illness after Covid. Have you checked out Raelan Agle's channel on YouTube? She talks about chronic fatigue (and long Covid), and a lot of it is very relevant for people with burnout too. Her videos helped me out a lot.
Thank you 🥰 yes! Discovering her channel meant a turning point in my recovery really, it’s when I started to believe again that I would recover 🌞 that’s a few years ago now, and my energy has improved a lot since then! Not quite there yet, but very much on my way. I’m so sorry to hear that you cope with chronic fatigue too. Sending you lots of good vibes 💕
It’s all about not forcing anything, but instead sensing your way through, being open and moving with the waves. It’s quite comforting actually — like a dance with life, all you need to do is be attuned 🌞
It really helped a lot. I had an acute physical reaction to some emotional stuff I was obviously not addressing. This meditation and some reiki really helped to shift it, thanks so much! It was really effective.

I think we all doubt our path sometimes!!
Yes, yes we do!

Another one of my fav quotes is “Don’t go where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.” - Ralph Waldo Emerson 🙏🏽

yes!! beautifully put. Noticing when the energy waxes and wanes. I used to force when the energy left, now I'm learning to let go.
Thank you, your words truly find me in the perfect timing!
