Suzanne, You've made such great points in this piece, the main one being that our business model needs to align with our soul. I'm the opposite of you: give me a creative, solo endeavor, and I will be happy. Your journals are so beautiful! I appreciate that everything you offer is of high quality. And you're right about the math for selling journals or low-cost courses. Some people make it work as one income stream, but few can create an entire business income from it.
Love that you love a solo endeavor, Sandra! Knowing who we are and building our businesses around that is everything! Thank you for the kind words about the journals. And yes, for sure. Some people definitely make low-cost products work. Some books take off and generate thousands each month. But relying on that creates a lot of pressure! I'm a fan of creating, letting it out, and seeing what takes off. A lot more fun that way!
yess! Love it! I really wish Substack gave us more options for memberships. I would ideally like to have a minimum time commitment, and the ability to open / close enrollment.
yes, I agree. I made the annual plan the same as 5 months membership, and I will take monthly docs down so there is no binging. mmm, that would be flash to open/close for non evergreen stuff.
Hey Suzanne, thank you for this well thought out article! It is very insightful.
Indeed, there are different strategies depending on how we want to serve or what phase of the process we‘re in. It helps to know that if I put out a low-priced product, e.g to be clear why I am doing it and what I can expect.

Speaking my language🔥 hardest thing on Substack was to lower my price for a monthly membership and I settled at $97.
I’m surgeon pricing because that’s the precision I work with.
